Units & calculations

Fields that know they're a torque, not just a number

Every value in SpecLatch can carry a physical dimension. That one idea removes a whole class of catalog errors: units convert instead of being re-typed, formulas are checked against physics before they run, and the metric datasheet can never disagree with the imperial one.

Store once, display both systems

A unit-aware field stores one number in a unit you choose and displays it in any compatible unit — per grid view, per document template, per portal visitor. Dual display (240 N·m alongside 177 lb·ft) is a formatting choice, not a second column.

  • Pressure, flow, power, torque, temperature, length, and more
  • Per-template display units: metric datasheet and imperial datasheet from one record
  • A public unit toggle on your portal — visitors pick their system

Dimension-checked formulas

Calculated fields run tested functions, not spreadsheet strings. Every formula is checked for physical sense: adding a pressure to a temperature refuses to save, and a result must land in a field of the right dimension. When inputs change, results recompute everywhere.

  • A registry of engineering functions, each unit-tested
  • Chained calculations: one field's result feeds the next
  • Wrong-dimension formulas are rejected at definition time, not discovered in print

Rollups and lookups across tables

A series can aggregate its models — the torque range of a gearmotor line, the size span of a valve run — computed live from the records underneath. Lookups pull a linked record's value through the link, so shared data lives exactly once.

  • MIN / MAX / RANGE / COUNT and friends, per series
  • Lookups through linked records, chainable one hop at a time
  • Rollups print on documents like any other field

Performance curves

Define curve axes once per table — head vs. flow, torque vs. speed, output vs. input — and each record carries its own points. Curves chart on the record page and render into generated documents.

  • Unit-aware axes with dual-system display
  • Charted on records, printable on datasheets
  • Multiple curves per record
